Spend a day with the country's best cricket journalists

Date and times: Saturday 22 June 2013, 10am-5pm

Overview

While mainstream coverage of county cricket may seem to be dwindling, a recent proliferation of digital and print cricket magazines means there are more outlets than ever for writers keen to cover the game at any level. From Wisden to The Cordon, cricket journalism has a dedicated audience, offering ever more scope to write more in-depth and boundary-pushing features on the sport.

Led by veteran Guardian cricket correspondent Mike Selvey, the course shows how complicated matches are distilled into compelling prose, as well as covering the realities of being a cricket journalist today. You'll also get practical instruction in live reporting and blogging, giving you hands-on experience of covering a match.

Tutor profile

Mike Selvey is a cricket correspondent for The Guardian. He played three times for England, and famously dismissed Roy Fredericks, Viv Richards and Alvin Kallicharran with his first 20 balls, finishing with 4 for 41, in his first Test against the West Indies in 1976.

Good mix of practical exercises along with advice, Q&A, entertaining anecdotes and insight into the working life of cricket journalists.

It had the right mix of informality whilst making sure we covered a good amount of ground. Selve is a great authority to have in the room and very good company.
