Writing looks easy until you try to draft your first novel. All too often, either your idea dissipates like smoke when you try to pin it down, or gets instantly mired in technical complications.
Led by Booker-nominated and Costa-winner novelist Andrew Miller (Oxygen, Pure), this weekend course shows you how to establish tailor-made working methods that suit your needs, abilities and lifestyle.
By studying the very different working methods of well-known writers past and present, you'll gain an understanding of different ways to approach the essentials of the writing process, including research, planning and editing, allowing you to express yourself with confidence.

- Best ways to research your novel
- The rules you should know
- To edit or not to edit
- What to look for in a first draft
Tutor profile
Andrew Miller is the author of six novels. His first novel, Ingenious Pain, was published by Sceptre in 1997 and won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for Fiction, the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and the Grinzane Cavour prize in Italy. His last novel, Pure, won the 2012 Costa Book of the Year. He is an experienced tutor and a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.

Returns policy
Tickets may be refunded if you contact us at least 28 days before the course start date. After this time, up to 7 days before the course start date we may accept tickets and attempt to resell them on your behalf if the event is sold out. If the ticket is resold you will receive a refund of the ticket price, minus an administration fee equal to 10% of the ticket price. We cannot offer any refunds or attempt to resell your ticket less than 7 days before the course start date.
