Visual effects make the impossible seem possible. Blending live-action footage with computer-generated imagery, they create environments that would be otherwise impractical, dangerous or downright implausible. From scenes such the famous floating pen in Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey to James Cameron's mid-22nd century universe in Avatar, CGI imagery has created some of cinema's most imaginative and memorable scenes.
