Visualising data

There is more data than ever in the world. How do you stop yours from becoming just another statistic?

For anyone who makes presentations, the rise of data visualisation is a development as significant as the release of PowerPoint. A simple way of telling a complex story, if you work with statistics, evidence or information at any level, infographics will be an increasingly important element of your professional communications.

This one-day compendium of seminars is perfect for those wanting an overview of the emerging and expanding field of data visualisation, including what it is, and what it can do.

Expert tutors will show you their success stories in forensic detail, including how they sourced information and set about turning it into compelling visual stories, with numerous examples of best practice and plenty of scope for asking questions. Guardian speakers will include Adam Frost (head of data visualisation at the Guardian Digital Agency), Tobias Sturt (Design Manager) and James Ball (data journalist) and Alex Breuer (creative director of the Guardian).

The masterclass will cover:

• Data, Story, Chart, Design: The data visualisation process

• Getting the data, getting it right: Where to find the data with which to make your infographic

• Visual storytelling, how to convert data into a story with visual human context

Following the informative lecture sessions will be a panel discussion and question and answer time.
