How to write fiction based on family history

Overview

Our family histories can provide richly detailed sources of inspiration, as the likes of Rhidian Brook's recent bestseller The Aftermath, or Oliver Pötzsch's acclaimed 'The Hangman's Daughter' demonstrate. But real life - whether it's your parents' relationship or an ancestor's struggles - seldom follows a neat narrative arc. If you're interested in writing a work of fiction based on your genealogy this highly practical course provides an essential primer in researching, writing and structuring your story.

No matter what stage of the writing process you're at, from daydream to finished manuscript, novelist and academic Celia Brayfield, author of How To Write A Bestseller, will teach you how to make the most of your history, and handle the format's unique challenges.
